Everyone wants to be treated with respect. You and everyone in your life want to be accepted, considered individuals, treated politely, allowed some privacy, and judged on their own merits. Respect is earned and deserved when you learn how to respect others.
Treat others with consideration and do what is proper. Never be violent, mean or rude. Avoid such behavior simply because it is wrong, inappropriate and disrespectful, not because you fear you will be caught or punished. To be respectful, you must recognize and understand other people’s beliefs, and accept individual differences without prejudice. Don’t insist that everyone like you; simply treat others as they wish to be treated and expect them to do the same for you. When you are respectful, you value and encourage others. You must help other people find value in themselves. You will become
respected when you act with respect towards others.
Let me repeat that one more time: to earn respect, you must give respect.
Respect is never demanded. Read and study the following tips carefully, and practice them daily to earn respect from the people in your life.
Three methods to show your respect of others:
1. Treat everyone with respect by being polite. Always give people who you meet a friendly, “Hello.”
2. Respect the individuality of others and accept individual differences. Defend the rights of others to have opinions, as you would want them to defend your right to do the same.
3. Judge people on their merits, not on their race, religion, nationality, age, sex, physical or mental condition or socio-economic status. Being different than you is not a good reason to treat people differently.
Three behaviors to avoid:
1. Don’t insult, abuse, hurt, mistreat or harass others. There are no good reasons for such behavior and it is very disrespectful.
2. Don’t take advantage of others. Instead, you should strive to protect others.
3. Don’t act rude when others make small mistakes. Even if someone makes small mistakes, which impacts you, then you should still treat them with respect. Many mistakes are unintentional, and are not meant to be disrespectful.
People tend to be careless with respect and fail to treat others, as we would want to be treated. Respect must be rescued! Help rescue respect by applying these lessons, regularly.
